Data Clearinghouse
CWCOG is currently collecting data products to make available
to the membership and general public via the website and other
channels.
This 2008 goal is to create a repository of local, state and
federal data resources for convenient and efficient access
to a wide array of plans and data to meet the needs of our
members
and organizations that serve our communities.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) The CWCOG has been working with Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) technology for over 14 years. During this time, COG staff
has been collecting data and spatially referencing information
for the region. The COG’s GIS is made up of many complex
data layers built from information gathered throughout our planning
area. Such layers include:
- Street networks
- Transportation features
- Land use
- City limits
- Critical areas
- Census information
- Zoning
- Aerial photographs
Our GIS department supports CWCOG's planning, transportation,
environmental and community development services and projects.
In addition, the department works very closely with its members
to facilitate the sharing of GIS data among government agencies
and with the public to ensure the information is accurate, up-to-date
and readily available.
The CWCOG can provide various GIS services, from creating maps
and data layers, analyzing data, and creating geodatabase systems
for local jurisdictions. Please contact us if you are interested
in this service or have any questions.
Equipment Rental
Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment is available to rent
on a project-to-project basis. This equipment can be used to
record and spatially display field collected data on such features
as trails, wetland areas, and sewer, water, storm drainage
and other utilities. CWCOG staff can train individuals in the
use
of the equipment, or collect the data for you. We are also
available for processing the collected data. The GPS is a Trimble
GeoExplorer
XT and is compatible with a variety of GIS software.
